What happens in Q4? Market report from 1.9.23
Cheese stable, protein concentrates still falling, skimmed milk powder falling, spot milk price and milk fat slightly rising.
The summer holidays are over without much movement in the market. The market was very quiet with a rather negative mood.
We are now also recording the feed costs for dairy cows, which were also stable.
And in Switzerland?
Swiss cheese exports are still down at -6% at the end of June and we don't see any recovery in July.
To the question: What will happen in Q4?
There are signs of overproduction, especially in skimmed milk powder; most buyers have bought for Q4 and there is still enough product. Already today the production of skimmed milk powder is not cost covering at milk prices of € 0.40. This means that sooner or later more milk will be produced. This means that sooner or later more milk will flow into cheese production and cheese prices will come under pressure.
Our forecast for Q4:
We expect falling prices.
