Too much milk in Northern Europe? Market report 7-7-23
Protein concentrates still falling, skimmed milk powder and cheese falling rapidly, milk fat stable, spot milk rising.
The industry has mostly stocked up for the summer, demand in Northern Europe is declining due to holidays. In large parts of Europe, it is very dry, so milk production costs are rising and milk volumes are falling. If everything goes normally, the market should be in balance, but now we are feeling strong pressure on prices from Northern Europe.
And in Switzerland?
Cheese exports and production are still at a low level, but there is still room in the cheese cellars.
On the question: Too much milk in Northern Europe?
The situation is the same as at the beginning of the year, the disaster is coming from the north. I'm beginning to wonder if the northern cows eat seaweed? Then I could also explain why, with milk prices around 30 € cent, production is still going on.
Our forecast for Q4:
If we knew what was going on in the North, we could say more about Q4. The question is: will the decreasing demand be absorbed by the decreasing milk volume?
