Success for Affineur Walo at the International Cheese and Dairy Awards 2024
Affineur Walo von Mühlenen, one of Switzerland's most renowned cheese experts, has once again celebrated impressive successes at this year's International Cheese and Dairy Awards in Stafford, England. Particularly noteworthy is the title of "Best Raclette" awarded for his unique creation based on the recipe of the famous cheese artist Antoine.
The award-winning Raclette variant had already been recognised as the best Raclette during its debut in 2022. With this renewed accolade, Affineur Walo underscores its consistent quality and innovative prowess.
The International Cheese and Dairy Awards have evolved into a significant global event over the years. Originally started as a traditional summer festival of the English cheese industry, the competition now takes place at the Staffordshire Event Ground in Stafford. More than 4500 producers from around the world participated this year. Affineur Walo managed to win a total of 13 awards, further proving its outstanding position in the cheese industry.
The awards were distributed as follows: five gold medals, five silver medals, and three bronze medals. In addition to the award-winning Raclette, other winners included the 14-month aged Gruyère AOP, Stärnächäs, and Gallus Gold.
With these achievements, Affineur Walo is the most successful Swiss participant in the competition. Its exceptional quality, based on flower meadow cheese made with natural raw milk, is once again reaffirmed.
The International Cheese and Dairy Awards are not just a gathering place for cheese producers but also provide a platform to showcase new trends and innovations in the industry. The competition allows renowned manufacturers to present their products and serves as an important forum for the industry and trade.

Affineur Walo: Bringing the Taste of Swiss Flower Meadows to the World Stage
Affineur Walo von Mühlenen enriches cheese counters and dining tables worldwide with the full, unmistakable flavor of Swiss flower meadows. Two exquisite ranges of flower meadow cheeses are available:
Range 1: Affineur Walo — Cheese for Connoisseurs Seeking the Extraordinary
Crafted according to the traditional family recipes of the von Mühlenen family, these cheeses have won numerous awards and are multiple world champions.
Range 2: L’Antoine — The Cheese Artist
These original cheeses come from the Gruyère region and are based on the authentic recipes of Antoine, a shepherd and cheesemaker from the 17th century. Antoine developed and refined numerous cheese recipes, which we have revived. These cheeses have been recognized by international juries as "Best Raclette Cheese" and "Best Innovation of the Year 2022."
In addition to flower meadow cheeses, Affineur Walo produces bespoke cheese products for the industry under the Cheespro Walo brand, including Cagliata Walo (low-fat), Gran Pasta (for grating), and Hi-Lo for modern dishes.
About Affineur Walo
The von Mühlenen family has been involved in Swiss cheesemaking for nearly two centuries. Andreas von Mühlenen laid the foundation when he founded his company in Bern in 1867. His son Ernst von Mühlenen continued this tradition and renamed the business to von Mühlenen & Co. in 1909. In 1916, his brother Eugen also joined the company. After Ernst's passing, Walo von Mühlenen expanded the business, particularly exports to Europe and the USA.
In 1972, Roger von Mühlenen took over management and placed great emphasis on supplier quality. In 1996, his son Walo succeeded him, marking the fifth generation of family leadership. In 2006, the affinage facility in Düdingen was sold, and the business was restructured. Since 2011, the family has operated under the Affineur Walo brand, and since 2020, the sixth generation, represented by Fabiola and Andreas, has been active.
With this long tradition in cheesemaking, it is unsurprising that the von Mühlenen family and their team have received numerous awards. Notable among these are the 2005 World Champion title at the World Cheese Awards, three World Champion titles at the 2006 World Championships in Wisconsin, and the Supreme Champion award at the International Cheese Awards in Nantwich.
Affineur Walo stands for the highest quality and brings the authentic, original flavor of Swiss flower meadows to cheese lovers worldwide.
