Milk Market: A Christmas Surprise? Market Analysis dated December 22, 2023
Skimmed milk powder, milk fat, and cheese are slightly declining, while skimmed milk powder and protein concentrates remain stable. The spot milk price is stable at a low level.
It is a quiet market with little movement in prices. The low spot milk price poses a threat to the entire market. It is hoped that there will not be large quantities, and producers will not offer their products at too low of a price in January.
And in Switzerland?
Switzerland continues to suffer from the strong Swiss Franc, despite the Swiss National Bank's signal that it will no longer intervene in the foreign exchange market to strengthen the Swiss Franc.
As for the question of a Christmas surprise?
Clearly, the answer is no, neither positive nor negative.
Our forecast for Q1:
We expect prices to remain stable until the end of February. After that, higher production will meet subdued demand.

This is our last newsletter for 2023. It has been a turbulent year with a rapid downturn at the beginning, followed by a slight recovery towards the end of the year. In between, there was always the interference of the National Bank, weakening the Swiss Franc.
